2 . Dwain Wilder: n the Appalachian dulcimer I've found a musical instrument that has a developing potential in the world music scene, and a wonderful vehicle for invention and improvement. The challenge of building superb mountain dulcimers has been a wonderful opening to a world of music and art. As a result, Bear Meadow Appalachian dulcimers are to be found in many places throughout the world as well as in the U.S.

3.Karla Linn Merrifield : A seven-time Pushcart-Prize nominee and National Park Artist-in-Residence, Karla Linn Merrifield has had more than 300 poems appear in dozens of journals and anthologies. She has nine books to her credit, the newest of which are Lithic Scatter and Other Poems (Mercury Heartlink) and The Ice Decides: Poems of Antarctica (Finishing Line Press). Forthcoming from Salmon Poetry is Athabaskan Fractal and Other Poems of the Far North, and from FootHills Publishing, Attaining Canopy: Amazon Poems. 2.Also coincidentally, Sunday marks the reopening of Bowery Poetry 2.0. Drop by the Club at 6 for Peter Cherches' Book Party, stay to hang and chill.Bob Holman, a bearded, linen-suited veteran of St. Mark’s Poetry Project and the Nuyorican, founded the Bowery Poetry Club in 2002 as a haven for verse in all its forms—not just the shrill nursery rhymes and political rants associated with its noisier, smokier forebears. The stage and DJ booth loom impressively over the café’s sleek tables and exposed-brick walls, focusing all eyes and ears on performers who, in a single night, can range from improv-Dada-cabaret group the Typing Explosion to Bowery flophouse poet Bingo Gazingo. 3. New York Figure Study Guild Featured Artist Steve Carpenter: Tuesday, March 19, 6:00 PM Steve will discuss his abstract painting technique.  For Steve Carpenter, a painting begins with the construction of the support. He will discuss in some detail, with the aid of video, the building of the support for a new work. Much work goes into the preparation of the surface which is a key component of the painting process and provides inspiration and direction. Following a description of surface prep, Steve will discuss some of the many artistic decisions which must be made as he continues with a painting. NYFSG Members Free, Nonmembers: $5 Free will donation.

8.  Martha Deed, PhD (Boston University) is a retired psychologist and an active poet/writer and patient safety activist.  She has published several chapbooks, including #9 (Furniture Press, 2004), 65 X 65 (small chapbook project, 2006), The Lost Shoe, The November 2010 Project, and This is Visual Poetry (chapbook.com, 2010-2011), and a multi-media e-book: Intersections, a Journal of the Unexpected (Museum of the Essential and Beyond That, 2006) . Her most recent work includes editing a posthumous collection of her daughter, Millie Niss's, poems, City Bird  (Blazevox, 2011) and The Last Collaboration (Furtherfield, 2012), a reconstruction of Millie's last illness making use of experimental techniques borrowed from web art and based upon Martha's poems and Millie's medical records and writings from the ICU (emails, hospital notebooks, logs). 

Born in London, England, Dane Gordon served in the Royal Navy during World War II, received degrees in history, theology, and philosophy from Cambridge University, London University, and the University of Rochester, New York. He taught philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY until he retired. A Presbyterian minister, Gordon has published primarily in the fields of philosophy and theology.  A chapbook of poetry, The Logic of War, was published by FootHills Publishing in  2009.
