Special note: Alan told me that he had trouble with the link to My Multi-million Dollar Poetry Seminar Facebook event listing in the last post. Clearly proving he had in fact  read the post and qualifying him to be listed in this one! I'm not sure why he had trouble but the event is still happening and as far as I know the link is still live. Here's it is again and please let me know if you have any further difficulties! ( Alan that means YOU TOO!) http://www.facebook.com/events/422532131150147/

When he is not writing, which is not often, his hobbies include music and camera collecting. He currently resides in New Jersey. He always appreciates feedback of any kind on his work, and can be reached by e-mail at: Exakta66@gmail.com

The Blue Bird Reading at Avenue 50 Studio Featuring : Chiwan Choi,Brendan Constantine,Mandy Kahn
Ryan Nance.  with OPEN MIC after the feature. 2 minutes max. SIGN UP begins at 1:45!  Brendan is a former California Poet Laurette Nominee and a dear friend so you may think me biased for putting it this way, and of course you may feel free to do so! However,  the fact remains  that the year he was nominated  it came down to just two California poets : Philip Levine and Him! Based on the this I've come to the conclusion that had he been up against any other California poet ( including : Lawrence Ferlinghetti, S.A. Griffin, Wanda Coleman,  or anyone else.) He clearly WOULD HAVE WON THE TITLE BY A LANDSLIDE!  But as I said , he is a dear friend and you might consider me biased because of that. SO DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! CLICK ON THE LINK , GET THE DETAILS AND SEE I'M RIGHT FOR YOURSELF!

4. Peter's Picks:One of the popular features of our exhibits is "Peter's Picks". For most of our shows, Peter Marr, local photographer and often judge of photography competitions, makes selections of his favorite photographs exhibited by the featured and guest photographers. We are pleased that the next show will be a selection of Peter's and Gallery picks from our shows in 2011, a retrospection of some of the favorite work from the 13 exhibits of that year. We are pleased that Peter will also exhibit his specialty - exceptional bird photography. 36 photographers answered the call to return with their selected photographs for this retrospective. Image City Photography Gallery 722 University Avenue Rochester NY 14607 Gallery Hours

Events of note for this time:

1.Karla Linn Merrifield’s Newest Poetry Collection: Lithic Scatter and Other Poems is an intimate journey across the diverse landscape of the American West. Those words of New Mexico poet Michael G. Smith hint at the scope of Lithic Scatter, which was inspired by Merrifield’s many lengthy treks through the West. The 59 poems traverse a dozen states covering some 1.7 billion years! In Kansas, for example, we learn about Jewish immigrants who escaped European programs to become homesteaders, safe at last// in a sod house on one-hundred-sixty acres,/ in the blank ark of the sere open prairie. In Nevada, you’re mesmerized,/ needing more than both hands//to navigate this terrain of faultlines,/ how it shrinks humanity, how it favors lizards. In Arizona, readers arrive during the seasons of kiva spells/ and adobe smoke,/ in rimrocks of Arizona and alcoved dwellings of the Ancient Puebloans (Anasazi).Merrifield is also a well-informed tour guide to a dozen National Parks, Monuments, and Historical Sites. Thus, in Yosemite National Park in California, she turns eyes to a rock-climber inching/ upward a half mile on El Capitan’s vertical face sees only granite,/ curses its polish, oblivious to the glacier whose ghost is sheen on stone. And, at Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State, a frog along the trail speaks through the poet, instructing hikers to plant your feet/ on the earth and look up toward the canopy/ of ancient treetops.
Lithic Scatter and Other Poems (114 pages), with a cover photograph by the author, is available for $16 in selected bookstores and from online booksellers, as well as from the author via query to her at klmerrifield@yahoo.com or by phone at (585) 259-6934. ISBN 978-0-9882279-9-6.

2.One of Las Vegas' poetic institutions, now in it's 11th year, is on the move! Mark your calendars for February 26th. Join Word UP! Poetry & Music, Las Vegas' longest-running and most established weekly poetry reading, as we celebrate our brand new venue at the Freakin' Frog. Located just down the street from our soon-to-be old venue on Maryland Parkway, across from UNLV.There are several advantages to this move. First, WE ARE GOING BACK TO OUR OLD, ESTABLISHED TIME OF 7:00-9:00 P.M. to make it easier for everyone who had trouble making our temporary 6:30-8pm time at the Coffee Bean.It will also allow Word UP! to cater to our loyal and long-time supporters, but also open it up to new audiences as well. Word UP! will also now have the use of a stage and complete sound system graciously supplied by the Freakin' Frog, a food menu for those wanting a bite to eat, and for those who care for something else other that coffee, add beer and whiskey to the list. We'll also have greater flexibility in time and resources for hosting special events like the annual Men's & Ladies' Night poetry showcases. For those not familiar with the Freakin' Frog, even though the establishment serves alcohol, it *IS* an all-ages venue. So, Word UP! ***WILL STILL BE*** an all-ages poetry reading. All poets, musicians & entertainers of all ages are always welcome. And as usual, no censorship. Our only request is that you show your love and support for our new partners by supporting their establishment. We'd like to thank the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for their years of loyal support to Las Vegas' longest running weekly poetry reading. Our inaugural event will be our ever-popular Beat Poets night. Bring your favorite beat poetry to read. We'll also be treated to a Word UP! tradition, Nick Marco's rendition of Alan Ginsburg's "Howl," featuring Baba Shafeeq. Your long-time hosts,Megan Milligan, Mark Snyder, & Lana Hanson at: The Freakin Frog 4700 S Maryland Parkway Las Vegas, Nevada 89119 11:00 am - 3:00 am

4Poets All Over :
We had occasional discussions and many event postings, but because the members were scattered across the globe, there was little to argue about. In any case, the days of Yahoo Groups are over. No more traffic. No more arguments. No more events. No more love. It's lonely out there since the advent of Facebook and other social media. There are numerous Las Vegas Facebook Groups, one for every reading and organization, so I saw no need to create one (besides, I no longer live in Vegas, boo-hoo!), but I did decide to create a Poets All Over Facebook Group. I've yet to discover if it will really take off, but I've added/invited about 150 members so far, and I'm trying to stir up some activity. If you're a writer or poet, I do hope you'll join. This group is moderated by Danna Jae Nordin . Send her an e-mail at desertpoetess@yahoo.com to join.

Whew! Lots of stuff going on!  BTW, this just came up:  on December 15,2012 I looked  at the status on this blog and found that it had passed 10,000 views ( in the Blogger format a"hit"is a click on the link and a "View" is an indication that the link was live for at least 30 seconds indicating that someone might actually have read some of the post. They are tracked separately.) When I included this information in my next post I received over 100 comments all of which effectively stated " Congrats, but just who ARE all those people?" So when I set up the format for 2013 I decided that with permission I would Identify 3 "readers" per post to justify the numbers.  The only "requirements" are that you indicate both an interest in being added to the list and that you show that you have in fact read at least one post between 2009 when this blog first went live and the time at which you made your request to be listed. In most cases, asking to be listed is enough to meet both qualifications. just to be clear I'll re-Phrase: THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT OF BEING A POET, READING POETRY OR HAVING ANY INTEREST IN LITERATURE  WHATSOEVER TO BE ON THE LIST OF READER'S FOR THIS BLOG!   See you next time!

Please note, as the Great Poetry Exchange is open to everyone on planet Earth, it's possible that you will be required to send your book to someone outside of your own country which will, of course, cost you more in postage than it would to send it domestically.

Also, we'll ask that you
send us an e-mail in March once your book has actually been sent so we can keep track and make sure that all participants who send a book
get one.You also must agree to send out your book within 2 weeks of being notified of who to send your book
