I'm busy this week!

Hi folks : I know this is a day early but it's a busy week ! here's the poem for Christmas. :

On the Fritz
By Lawrence R. Berger
The road stretches onward
back through time and into the future.
Spot came first!
with her silent laughter and ready licks to brighten your day.
Next came Scooter and his high wire act
he'd only bark when the wells were successfully drilled.
Next came Lorca and Sam.
a lordly couple that couldn't scare a fly
but eagerly put up with poems and makeover madness
in a town without prostitutes.
Now
we have Fritz the cute!
Who longingly looks for walks
and grandma's cookies
and remains broken
like a genital horse you can settle onto.
Love comes in many sizes.
fortunately they all fit.

Oh the weather outside.

Hi folks: Well this week I'm back to a reasonable posting time. The eastern Half of the country is blanketed in snow and e verybodys digging out for the holidays. Hopefully your staying warm were you are. Here's this weeks poem:

Snow
By Lawrence R. Berger
It's that time of year
when white flakes fall
from the sky and shovels
come out of hiding and the plows hit the road.
People huddle together for warmth
and the homeless head for shelters.
Burning trash cans dot the landscape
and people bring home packeges of all types.
There is a hush in the air.
See you next week.

I just busted a cherry!

Hi folks: Don't adjust your screen! the time stamp is correct , it really is 2:06 Am eastern standard time . I just finished /Listening to De'Joynt on Killradio.org . It's hosted by my first poetry teacher James Maverick and his partner De De. I was the first one to call into their talk show and I did four poems. It was great to hear from James again and He said everyone in LA misses me. The show is based in Los Angles California but goes out over the Internet to the world. The time difference was a struggle but I'm still wide awake and very excited. Here's this weeks poem :

Cherry bustin
By Lawrence R. Berger
There's nothing like an old friend
to make you feel safe
Words travel far when pushed forth
Sometimes sleep is a bad thing.
Love concurs all even time.
See you next week.

The rent is to damned high!
By Lawrence R. Berger
The toy stores celebrate
the holidays differently
from the rest of us.
They stay open and tempt
children's imaginations
and guilt the parents
into spending more than they can afford .
Then they have to struggle to put food on the table
or pay the rent . Only in America.
see you next week!

Hi folks : I don't know about you but I can already taste the gravy and mashed potatoes. Unfortunately I live with my vegetarian parents so I'll have to make due with tofurkey. hope you and yours enjoy a real good bird! Here's this weeks poem :

The week before thanksgiving
By Lawrence R. Berger
The count down has started
six days twelve hours and ten minutes till it's here!
Our annual ritual that no other country has and
the only Holiday celebrated by all religions in America.
The rich meaty bird
is already in the freezer
Hey they were on sale this week
so why wait till the last minute right?
I can already taste the mashed potatoes
and gravy . I can literally feel it sliding down
my throat. I've got the TV guide all set up for the games I want to watch.
Thank god for credit cards! I paid my cable bill!
Oh well ,
I guess I must be hungry today.
see you next week!

Happy Wednesday!

Hi folks :

Well, it's that time again! Here's this weeks poem :

Night Driving
By Lawrence R. Berger
Last night I drove to a reading
With my friends Kitty and MJ
My Second time driving at night in 20 years.
The first was a week ago at
Todd Davis's reading at St. John Fisher.
Everything looks different at night.
The dark makes it hard to see.
The lights from a thousand cars
make everything seem Eire
and I have never been so scared!
But I did it ! and I survived !
onwards and upwards!

Well it's over!

Hi folks : The mid term elections are now finally history! Maybe now we'll see more growth in the economy and get this country back on track . My candidate for Governor Didn't win but two of my Senate candidates were elected! We'll soon see what if anything changes . Now on to this weeks poem:

Temporary Insanity
By Lawrence R. Berger
Politics is strange!
The wolves chase the good ones
out of the pack as the elk preen and strut
their voices pronouncing the truth of their hunger.
Sheep are led to pasture by the Shepard
who watches for wolves.

Politics is strange
but it's like our favorite
sports teams lining up on the
grid iron for a Sunday afternoon Battle
We get energised and polarised
by our favorites.
My candidate did not win
so now we've got no chance
of getting any thing done.
.
See you next week.

Happy birthday to me!

Hi folks: Well it's official , as of today I've lived forty four years . I survived to see another birthday , but it's different now! Tom Bosley died last week as did a piece of my childhood. At a certain point I guess we all get old. Ive finally reach that point myself . So without waisting any more time here's this weeks poem :

Fate
By Lawrence R. Berger
Time stops for no one
from dust we came and
to dust we shall return.
The trick is to leave a mark while we're here!
Something that will outlive us and stand for all time.
I don't know what my legacy will be but it's high time I tried to find out!

Thanks for your comments!

Hi folks : Well the book is live on amazon.com, b&n.com and borders.com as well as from the publisher at www.iuniverse.com . I'm very excited and happy ! Here's this weeks poem :

Happy Days
By Lawrence R. Berger
Mr. C died yesterday at the ripe old age of 84
Richie was of making movies and had no comment .
Joni and Chachi were there crying and so
was Potsy.
The Fonz gave a stirring Eulogy
and Arnold Catered the affair.
I grew up on watching the show .
Mr.C taught me many things like the
millions of others who watched his show
i learned respect for my elders and how to be cool!
There are moments in life that you know
will affect you forever.
the loss of Mr. C is one of mine.
see you next week!

stoking the fire untill
her passions no longer confinable
she explodes ! Releasing the rapture of the moment.

Snow blind

the motion is slow but relentless.
Year by year

Something to hold on to so you cam believe
you made a difference . But the clock moves on
and on . Never stooping never changing
as we grow old and life passes us by

with a shofar blast

Happy Labor Day!
by Lawrence R. Berger
To all who struggle
and toil in amongst the rubble
let the dust fall off your back
and lay down that heavy sack
for you have truly earned the rest
with which we have been blessed.
The time has come nigh
for you to rest and pacify
your aching wounds
from summer work
I only wish you the best
on this your well earned day of rest
for down your burdens you will lay
have a happy labor day!

Welcome to fall!

Hi folks: It's harvest season! all the fruits and vegetables are cheap and fresh! Here's this weeks poem:

Perfect pear picking weather
By Lawrence R. Berger
The sun is warm out today.
and the tree is ready!
There is much fruit on it
and it is perfectly ripe.
I go early in the morning
before it hits 90 in the shade
and get what I can from the tree.
There is plenty more for another
day. This year we've harvested more
pears than ever before and there is still more on the tree !
I guess it's like life, the more you get done the ,more you have yet to do!
see you next week!

Their anniversary is in just a few weeks !

The trip Part two

Hi folks : Happy fourth of July! Today's the seventh but who's counting? Anyway here's the way home.:
My cousin's Wedding Part two the way home
By Lawrence R. Berger
I wake to the phone in the room ringing.
My parents are calling to get me up to go to the
breakfast that is being provided for out of town guests .
I dress quickly and bring my luggage out of the room
to meet them. We go to the lobby and check out .
They offer to hold our bags
till we actually leave and we take them up on it.
Inside they have a huge spread:
eggs ,salmon. sausage and bacon
and all kinds of baked goods.
I feel sorry for the hotel , nobody touched the sausage or bacon,
though why they would serve pork at a Jewish wedding is beyond me.
We sit with my brother, Cheeseburger and his wife .
We sing Happy Birthday but no cake . Anyway we spend the morning together.
At 3:45 we collect out bags and the Super Shuttle picks us up.
The driver's name is Tony and he informs us that we are his last passengers.
He was leaving the company to bicycle to New York from Tampa
Poppy gives a pep talk that lasts the entire trip . We get to Air Trans and check our luggage . Selma eats an ice cream as we wait for the tram to our gate.
Poppy gets stuck in security even though he wore his cloth belt.
But we make the gate and onto the plane and have to wait an hour for take off due to weather conditions . My cousin Cindy and her family sit in the row in front of us. She tells us she told her kids to get tall ladders for eloping after what she saw
her sister spent in Florida . There is a crowd at the gate and they send us to the wrong baggage claim but eventually we get our bags and make our way home.
see you next week!

The trip ! Part one

Hi folks: Florida was fun and I'll tell you all about it in this week's poem ( the trip back will have to wait a week.) Here goes:
My cousin Erin's wedding
By Lawrence R. Berger
The flight down was smooth
and I didn't even need a seat belt extender!
I was so proud! If I fly again it will be Air Trans!
we take the train to baggage claim and pick up
our luggage and run to catch the super shuttle.
Jorge number five picks us up and we leave the airport
for the hotel .
We arrive early but they still let us check in which was nice.
Thankfully the rooms were air conditioned !
Florida was ninety degrees the entire weekend !
Anyway we eat at a place called Mad fish and find out about a place named Skippers that was even closer to the hotel and cheaper too.
we'd eat there three times before the weekend was over .
The ceremony was quite short
only last half an hour
but it was a good thing that the sun held up because just as we were going in for dinner a lightning storm picked up and provided a nice light show .
after a few toasts and dancing I go to bed.
part two next week. see you then!

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Happy Summertime!

Hi folks : Well yesterday was the summer solstice so it's now officially summer. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!

Hanging at the airport
By Lawrence R. Berger
It's raining now as we Rush from the parking lot
suitcases in tow . we check out flight with the Air trans employee
and we have to pay $75.oo for our checked bags .
we run like we're being chased by wolves after
we barely make it through security towards the gate
we make the plane and Bring Bring . the alarm clock goes of to remind me its Thursday and there is still one more day to go.
Let you know how the trip pans out in next weeks blog. see you then.

Hi folks : well this week I went to a tombstone unveiling for my favorite aunt . It was bitter sweet but at least it didn't rain ! Afterwards we all gathered at Friendly for lunch and chatting . memories
By Lawrence R. Berger
Time passes as it must
and along the way we lose
touch with people we love .
Ash to ash and dust to dust
and all that other crap
leads up to a life
lived till the end
I'll miss you.
see you next week.

Happy wednsday folks!

Hi folks : Been busy getting ready for the next wedding . It's in two weeks. oh well at least its not mine but a relatives. Not that I'm not interested in getting married myself , just that it's not happening in two weeks. Here's this weeks poem :

Anticipation
By Lawrence R. Berger
Clouds roll across the sky
day turns into night
and you wake one morning
and realize you haven't done a thing with your life.
Sometimes life is good
the cherry's are ripe
for the picking and
the sun shines
clouds roll across the sky
maybe its just the waiting
that makes it hard.

Thursday, June 3, 2010

Sorry folks!

I'm back! sorry I missed last week but I'm here now! here's this weeks poem :

Stuff Happens 3
By Lawrence R. Berger
We leave Kansas city smooth as silk
but get hit between the eyes with
a three hour delay in Atlanta on our way
home .
What to do?
we decided to eat before we left Kansas
so we end up just watching kids play hackysack
by the phones. I wonder if the kids even knew what they were for.
Poppy gives his hydrogen peroxide speech for the millionth time
and the time moves on. we're asleep in our chairs when we hear the overhead
"now boarding flight 2210 to Rochester"
we get on the plane and
I have a coke .
we land and run to baggage claim and miracle of miracles our luggage comes off the rack ! we get home about 3:30 am exhausted but happy to sleep.
see you next week.

Bungee Jumping
By Lawrence R. Berger
From the tops of cliffs

From the tops of bridges
they swoop down to enjoy
the rush.
Maybe life is best described by bungee jumping

see you next week!

Help!
By Lawrence R. Berger
Life by the sea is over for now
I have not been able to work my way back .
the weather grows colder each day
and it's supposed to be summer already!
Snow in may is not a good sign
but at least its not six feet high!
So may your credit card not be maxed out
and always carry a shovel.

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Hi folks. sorry I'm a little late with this weeks blog but my printer died yesterday and I had to hold the funeral. Anyway I took last weeks poem to a workshop and got some advice to make changes. let me know what you think .

A- Maying
By Lawrence R. Berger
Flowers bloom in their natural state
and people begin to shed their winter coats
trees bud and fill the air with their fragrance.
Who would have thought that life goes on so easily ?
It was not always so.
In years past the first of may has been dreary
and drenched in rain .
so enjoy the sun !
let the children frolic as they might
till winter comes again and we sit by the fire
entwined in each others arms letting the snow take care of itself.
see you next week.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

By Lawrence R. Berger
Time dances on from morning till night
always revolving around life changes
sometimes the work is good sometimes
you need a little bit of fertilizer to
grow tall.
see you next week.

Hi again!

Hi folks: Well the economy has gone down the toilet again and joblessness is at an all time high! oh well , at least there's still poetry . Here's this weeks entry:

In the end dose it really matter?
Sometimes words are not enough.
we find a look , a gesture or a touch
so much more comforting .
human to human contact is why we're on the planet !
after we're gone
is there any one else?
see you next week.

This time for sure!

Hi folks : Well this week I found out that the job I was counting on went to someone else, heavy sigh, oh well at least I still have my poetry. and here's this weeks contribution to my volume of work.

Home Cooking
By Lawrence R. Berger
There is snow on the ground
more that in the past hundred years!
people are complaining about having to dig out
cars with faulty brakes and some with dead batteries.
I'm in the house
making chili
to warm cold bellies
life is good.
see you next week.

catch as catch can
By Lawrence R. Berger
Somtimes life kicks you in the teeth
and makes you swallow. But dentists still take cash
and you'll be smiling again.

getting to the good stuff!

Hi folks : still on the job search but this week I've learned I'm still in the running for a lot of the jobs that I've applied for and I've gotten some good tips. So here's this weeks poem:

On the good foot
By Lawrence R. Berger
The snow covers the street
and gets blown by the wind
sometimes we get what we want
and sometimes we have to wait .

still the snow needs to be shoveled
see you next week.

The Saga Continues...

HI folks : Still looking for a job but I've had some very good interviews this week so we'll see if anything comes up. I tried to get into this on-line college thing but the school I tried wanted $425.00 per unit with a minimum of eight units per semester! Even with financial aid I can't afford that ! So I withdrew from that college quick! Maybe I'll be employed soon but I want to put out the word to make sure you know how much your tuition will cost before you take any classes. So here's this weeks poem:

By the skin of my teeth
By Lawrence R. Berger
Whew! That was close.
I can't imagine paying of the loans in my sixties!
I'm not even sure I'll live that long !
I've got to get a nice job, that will help set me up
for the future . Maybe you can help.
Please!
see you next week!

Borring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi folks : Well it's been two weeks since I ended my time at the University of Rochester. I've finished most of my busy work and I'm starting to get a little bit Bord out of my skull . filling applications doesn't help much so here's this weeks poem about boredom:

I'm gonna shoot myself!
By Lawrence R. Berger
It happened .
I got tired of running around like a chicken
with my head cut off and the same old routine .
Now there's nothing to fill the time
nor is their funds flowing into my wallet.
but the sun still shines and another tomorrow
will come weather or not I'm here . But for now I'll fight the boredom with
this blog entry.

as promised

Hi Folks : well here's the poetry I promised you :

New Year , New Rules
by Lawrence R. Berger
Some times life gets dicey
and you begin to wonder
which way is up .
somethings in life
are worthy of note
others pass by like raindrops on a cloudy day.
smells of home crowd out bad memories and
Friends can help you through it all.
but mostly
life gets lived.
see you next week.
